Xavier Ribeiro is a Portuguese composer, author of music for film, television, video games and concert music.
His musical journey began early, at age 8, when he discovered drums and the universe of music. At age 12 he composed his first song, and has never stopped since. He grew up listening to everything from classical to heavy metal, through jazz, fusion, funk and world music, and soon became interested in film and game soundtracks.
He attended the Conservatory — Escola das Artes da Madeira, Engenho dos Sons and Lisbon School of Music, where he developed his skills as a musician and composer.
His creative approach is deeply influenced by visual narrative. Xavier finds in the image the starting point for his compositions, creating music that not only accompanies but amplifies the story. Texture, emotion and experimentation are hallmarks of his style.
With a catalogue surpassing 30 works, Xavier composes for orchestra, choir, ensemble, wind band and solo instruments. His work "BOREAS" won the X Wind Orchestra Composition Competition, premiered on July 5, 2024 by the Póvoa de Varzim Wind Orchestra at the Municipal Auditorium of Póvoa de Varzim.
His most recent work is the chamber opera "Água Traz, Água Leva", with libretto by Carla Magalhães, premiered on July 27, 2024 at Festival ao Largo, in the Botanical Garden of Lisbon, produced by Teatro Nacional de São Carlos.
